UL Lafayette Information Networks

OUINET General Information

The Overall University Information NETwork (OUINET), was originally installed in 1986 and provides campus area network services to UL Lafayette. OUINET connects various computers using asynchronous, synchronous, and ethernet pathways. Fiber optic strands between buildings move the computer information as pulses of light at the speed of light. OUINET was designed and installed by INFORMATION NETWORKS.

The campus is divided into OUINET Service Areas. Outages will be announced by OUINET service area numbers. It is important that you know which service areas you use in the course of your normal computing. OUINET announces the service areas of the terminal you are using before you signon and with each select service prompt. Users that make use of ethernet or asynchronous services will need to know the area number of each building.

You can learn how to login to OUINET from the OUINET Tiny Tutor, or if you prefer a more detailed explanation, click here.
