How to Access UL Lafayette Network Facilities via a Modem

Use of OUINET DIALUP is limited to authorized users. UL Lafayette provides authorization in the form of a Campus Login ID (CLID), a password to authenticate the CLID and a Control Code. All use of OUINET DIALUP is under the conditions of UL Lafayette Policies on Access and Usage of Computers and Networks' and other per system policies. You must use your own CLID, and you may not release your CLID password information to anyone else.

You will need a modem and a terminal (or a personal computer (PC) emulating a terminal) to call OUINET DIALUP. Configure your software to provide eight (8) data bits, NO parity bit, and one (1) stop bit. Interconnection between the telephone line, the modem, and the terminal device is equipment specific and is your responsibility. We suggest, if your equipment is capable, you support hardware flow control between modem and terminal device. OUINET DIALUP supports flow control from end to end. Configuration of your software on a PC or setup configurations of a terminal is an exercise for the user. If you have a personal computer and modem but no terminal emulation software, contact the UL Lafayette Help Desk (337-482-5516) to obtain a copy of the Kermit terminal emulation program (at no cost).

Your modem can be almost any generic modem that supports data rates between 300 and 28800 bits per second. Supported modem protocols include:
ITU-T V.34, 28800 26400, 24000, 21600, 19200, 16800, 14400, 12000, 9600, 7200, 4800, 2400; V.34 and V.32; V.42; V.42bis; Bell 212A; Bell 103; Rockwell V.FC 28800, 26400, 24000, 21600, 19200, 16800, and 14400.

For All Staff calls to
