PORT and ADDRESS MANAGEMENT

The following information is provided to define network management and control procedures in place. There are several layers of protection in OUINET. These pages only relate to traffic that is restricted at the interface between the campus and the outside world connections of Internet 1 and Internet 2. Changes can be made without notice as required to maintain network operation.

A proposed change is described here. The information on the link is planned to be implemented in the near future. System managers are responsible for monitoring this for the latest information on PORT and ADDRESS MANAGEMENT.

The following is the current configuration. The information has been edited to simplify its display and protect network security. Questions should be directed to Information Networks at extension 26418.

PORT 25

 

This port is used for e-mail services. Frequently, machines that are compromised make use of this port to further infect other computer system. It is planned for port 25 to be blocked for all incoming and outgoing traffic excepted for Information Technology operated computer system. Users who receive DHCP from NETREG information and used the received information will not be impacted.
